A solar panel, or photovoltaic module, typically consists of silicon solar cells, a protective glass or plastic cover, a backsheet, an aluminum frame, and wiring to connect the cells. The solar cells themselves are often made of crystalline silicon, with most panels using monocrystalline or polycrystalline silicon.
